Intergenerational Pageantry
Bridging the Gap and Finding our Way Back to Natural Beauty

My grandmother was a natural beauty.  She was a farmer’s wife and
up early every morning.  She was always dressed in a starched
gathered at the waist dress, ear bobs and pearl necklace and an
embroidered apron she had made.  She cooked three meals every day,
and did all the household chores and always dressed as if she expected
someone important to come for a visit.

She loved the outdoors and flowers.  I loved to walk with her and
listen to her stories about life. She talked a lot about being
beautiful…not so much on the outside, but being beautiful on the
inside...always look your best, but more important, be the best person
you could possibly be.  I thought her advice was a little silly at the
time, just grandmother talking, you know.

Here I sit now at 59 years old, thinking back on all those walks we
took together, and how much I learned about life from my
grandmother, and at the time I did not even realize what a brilliant
woman she was. How simple it was then, to spend quality time
together.  We are so busy that we miss out on so many of the simple
things.  As I look around these days, I don’t see much talking or
sharing life’s little lessons.  I don’t see our young girls spending a lot of
time with our silver haired grandmothers, aunts, and friends.  The
bridge between the two seems so wide and vast.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could re-create some of those days gone
by?  To bring our young and our old together—to learn from one
another, share experiences and ideas, just generation to generation?
The internet is filled with profiles of communities, churches and civic
groups who have turned their attention to intergenerational programs
and services. Much attention is being given to understanding the value
of bringing generations together in unique and positive ways. Our
pageants will feature generations such as great-grandmothers,
grandmothers, mothers and daughters participating together.
Recognitions and awards will be given to our intergenerational group
category much like we judge and reward all our other categories.

Pride of America is a non-profit pageant organization for a varied age
of women who are involved in pageantry to build self-esteem and
enhance their natural God given gifts in very simplistic ways.   2011-
12; Pride of America is embarking on a new journey….
Intergenerational Pageants which will highlight ladies of all ages, young
and old alike.  Three new categories of participants have been created
to recognize our elite senior participants.  Pageant themes will be
centered around competition that will bring generations together.  My
grandmother would be on stage if she were here, I just know it.  And
she just might win a sash or a crown for I cannot imagine that there
would be anyone more beautiful than her from the inside out….
